The Abu Garcia Revo STX series of reels are made for bait casting. These reels feature an open housing and a corrosion-resistant instant anti-reverse bearing that allows for use on saltwater. The Revo STX reels do not need any modification for use on saltwater, but it is a good idea to clean the reel after hard use on the brine. Be sure to pair up the reel with a suitable rod for saltwater fishing.

)Attach the Revo STX reel foot to the foot clamp on the saltwater rod. The Revo STX is made to go over the pole versus under.

)Set up your line and rod with the appropriate weight for the species you are fishing. For example, if you are going for inshore stripers, consider outfitting the Revo with 10-lb. line. If you are going for jack or mackerel, use a heavier line, such as 12- or 16-lb. test.

)Fish on saltwater as you normally do. Use the Revo’s cast button to send out the line, bait or lure and set the drag lever found on the left side of the reel during retrieves and fights when fish strike the line.

)Open the reel by unscrewing the handle screws and the cast bail button when the reel shows slat accumulation. Dab a cotton swab into the saltwater solvent and wipe off the bushings and gears around the spool and handle. Wipe off the grime and solvent with a dry rag.

)Lubricate the bushing and gears after cleaning with the solvent. Squirt two to three drops into the bushings and turn the spool manually to work the lube into the gears. Place the handle and housing back on the reel, tighten the screws and get ready for another day on the briny seas.
